• Magpie portraits

    Updated: 2012-06-28 16:04:21
A few days ago we had some wonderful rain. When we get significant falls of rain, we also get sizeable puddles of water in our gravel driveway. The birds often take advantage of the water and enjoy a splash or two. I managed to get a few portrait shots of one of our resident magpies.

  • Are the magpies getting ready to start nesting?

    Updated: 2012-06-27 23:30:57
Australian Magpies are one of the most recognisable of Australian birds. They are common over large parts of Australia. They are also highly territorial, and in the breeding season they can be very aggressive towards other magpies, other bird species, and, on occasions, towards humans. Their swoop – usually from behind and usually unexpected – [...]

  • A parrot flyover

    Updated: 2012-06-27 12:16:47
It is my habit to go for a walk every day. In reality, it is a habit more on the wish-list than in reality. I need to do it for general fitness, well being and just plain sanity. Sitting at a keyboard writing all day is not the smooth path to a healthy life. But [...]

  • Trying to protect blackbirds

    Updated: 2012-06-26 19:16:08
I protected a blackbirds nest and 4 eggs from my 2 dogs and i was excited when the chicks hatched the other day. As the nest was near my front door i could see the chicks clearly. The next day magpies raided and took 3 of the 4 chick. Lucily we saved 1 and return [...]

Hi Trish, Its been a while since I wrote so thought I would let you know our news on sparrow hawks and crows!!    I haven’t seen as yet a crow on our garden chasing or indeed eating a song bird but I’m sure things like that happen as Tina wrote in this previous comment.    [...]

  • Digestive Health in Dogs and Cats

    Updated: 2012-06-21 21:01:33
More than 6.5 million dogs and 12.4 million cats suffer from chronic digestive problems*. The symptoms they experience include gas, diarrhea, bloating and nausea. Many more pets suffer the occasional digestive upset due to changing to a new food, antibiotic use or stress. Having intestinal discomfort is no fun for our pets, or for us, but there are effective means to help make them more comfortable and to strengthen their digestive system, naturally...

  • A few birds in Peterborough, South Australia

    Updated: 2012-06-19 01:36:32
This post is long overdue. I’ve been busy. Over the recent Easter long weekend we went to stay with our daughter in Clare in the mid-north of South Australia. On the Sunday we travelled further north to the town of Peterborough. This was where my wife grew up and in the intervening years we’ve visited [...]

  • SWALLOWS DISAPPEARING FROM NEST

    Updated: 2012-06-18 20:21:12
We have 3 new swallows nests this year in our summerhouse, which is normal as in previous years. But yesterday the swallows have suddenly disappeared. Is this due to the bad weather? Any eggs laid will not now hatch if they do return. Any views would be welcome. Peter -0-0-0-0-0- I know this weather is bad [...]

  • NOISE FRIGHTENING OFF CROWS / MAGPIES

    Updated: 2012-06-18 20:03:30
I have become abit of an anorak since retiring last summer, about the greedy crows and magpies gulping back my expensive bird food from the table/feeders.   I have an elaborate system of string tied around the table now, which works pretty well.   However! I have just received a BB gun I sent off [...]

  • A FRIENDLY ROBIN

    Updated: 2012-06-18 19:48:59
Hi   I’ve noticed that when I’m gardening and wearing something red that my local robin is far bolder and will ‘dive bomb’ close to my head or stand within 2 feet of where I’m working. Stella -0-0-0-0 What a lovely story.  You’ve got a friend there.  Take care of this little robin! Trisha

  • JeffersEquine Helmet Awareness Day 2012

    Updated: 2012-06-05 00:19:59
These are actual employees of JeffersEquine including Ruth Jeffers, the Vice Pres. of Sales & Marketing "riding" stick horses on a course we made from stuff around the warehouse and barn. We aren't sure who won, but we all survived. The music in the background is "Flight of the Bumblebee". No stick horses were harmed in the making of this video.
